Sunday 6th Dec saw the very first IKFF UK Pentathlon, also held in association with GSU. Congratulations to all the lifters and event organisers, what a great day!

Garioch Kettlebells hosted a brilliant day of kettlebell lifting in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. Seasoned UK Pentathlon athlete and IKFF Master Trainer Alan Lyon headed up the GKB team to deliver the sold out full day comp to lifters from all over the UK.

Pentathlon was originally introduced by the WKC in America and involves contesting 5 lifts, each lasting 6 mins each with a 5 min rest between. The lifts are all done with a single bell and the lifter can switch as many times as possible. The lifts, in order, are:

  • Cleans (max reps 120)ikff5
  • Longcycle press (max reps 60)
  • Jerk (max reps 120)
  • Half snatch (max reps 108)
  • Push press (max reps 120)

The fixometer, a type of motion sensor device attached to the kettlebell, are sometimes used, as in this case, in pentathlon competitions to signal to lifters and judges that reps have been fixated as appropriate.

In this particular event there were 3 weight categories each for men and women, with bronze silver and gold medals in each category. Overall winners were awarded and also Achievement Awards were presented. Special congratulations go to to Alan Lyon and Alaine Ross for achieving overall winners trophies, Alaine  also achieved the highest recorded result in a pentathlon competition using the fixometer with a score of 1216.75!

Well done to all, it was a brilliant event, and the first of more to come. As dates are confirmed for future UK events we’ll add them to the event calendar.
